Kiddies are just plain awesome. Ours are super fun, and all similiar in many respects, but then really different, too.
Take Avery -- he's always been the one with the huge heart from day one. A few years ago I started teasing him and calling him "Pastor Avery" because of his compassion and love for others, and started to plant my own seed that he would be incredible in ministry when he is all 'growed up.' But, at the wise age of four, he told me that he would rather be something else... and he wondered if God would train him up to be a transformer instead of a pastor.
Steph and Ave both live and breathe baseball, and the first graders' season is just getting started. The 'black team' just had their "Meet the Coaches" night on Monday. Steph's the head coach, so Ave officially needed to go along to meet his dad. :)
On the way to the meeting, Avery noticed that Steph had some business cards tucked in the visor of his truck and he asked what they were for, as Ave could read his dad's name on them. Stephen began to explain that business cards are used to give out to people who want more information (phone, email, etc.) about him. Avery asked if he could take a look at one, and Steph handed one back. As he was reading the card to himself, it clicked... and Ave said, "Dad... you're the SENIOR project manager for LeJeune Steel Company?"
Ave then flipped over the card, looked at the blank back, and said, "But Dad... why aren't there any gold stars or 'Great Job' on these cards?" Steph giggled, saying that Avery had a point, and it was a good idea, but that he didn't really know why -- unfortunately business cards just aren't made like that. Stephen then pulled into the grocery store parking lot, told Ave that he just needed to run in for a second, and that he would be right back. While Steph was gone, Ave got out of his car seat, tracked down a pen in Daddy's truck, and did this:
Don't we all need one of these every once in a while... much more often than we get them? I would have to think that Steph will be able to walk away from being Senior Project Manager of LeJeune Steel Company completely fulfilled -- especially since receiving this from his absolute biggest fan, on and off the field.
