Just a few glimpses of our homeschooling fun so far this fall. What a joy it's been to be able to share this opportunity with the kiddies... and keep them a little closer, too!
We made homemade play-doh... and used leftover Famous Dave's plates from the Global Cup golf tournament. Win and win! This was the best recipe I've found so far, if any of you creatives one out there are interested and have some time:
-2 cups flour
-2 cups water
-2 cups sea salt
-2 tablespoons canola oil
-1 tablespoon cream of tarter
Combine all and cook over low heat until it starts to pull away from the stockpot. Let cool, add coloring, and have fun!
This was our language arts/spelling activity earlier this week -- I asked them to sort the letters and create words. This is what our kiddies did on their own... I'm thinking their hearts are majorly being prepared for what's ahead of us. :)
And, this was just a free activity that they did together with one of Iliea's birthday gifts. They named it "Planet Bendaroos." Just a note -- this 'planet' left a sticky mess on the table. :)
"An eternal question about children is, how should we educate them? Politicians and educators consider more days in a year, more science and math and the use of other technology in the classroom, more exams and tests, more certification for teachers, and less money for art. All of these responses come from the place where we want to make the child into the best adult possible, not in the ancient Greek sense of virtuous and wise, but in the sense of one who is an efficient part of the machinery of society. But on all these counts, soul is neglected." -Thomas Moore
