Burlap on the Brain...

34
I love burlap. I also love challenges and re-inventing the wheel in Swaziland. It's very fun. I've needed to come up with a window treatment to cover a stark white curtain rod in the kitchen, and it's taken me some time, but I've done it. I didn't want curtains in the kitchen, but I needed a little something more.

Finished this morning -- it was painless, inexpensive, and quick. And YOU can do this too!

You'll need:

1) burlap to wrap your curtain rod
2) raffia
3) artificial flowers.

No hot glue... just tie the raffia securely around the rod, and tuck the flower stems into the raffia. That's it. Fifteen minutes tops.

There are sooo many other things that you, my stateside friends, could do. But here in Swaziland, we're very limited. My choices are few, but I do have meters and meters of burlap, even after finishing this window treatment. I'm either going to have to make Steph a complete outfit (that he must wear), start to wallpaper our flat... or come up with another burlap project. :)

**A footnote. Are you wondering about the bars on the windows? It's taken us a bit to get used to, but we are so thankful to have them. A US Embassy family lived in our Swazi home before we did, and all of the bars were put into place so that the flat would be more secure. We sleep pretty well at night. :)
